It can be broken down to these sections: AAAA – BB – CC - DDD Let's take this imaginary 11-character swift code: AAAABBCCDDD Whenever an eight-character code is used, then it is referring to the headquarters (main office) of the institution. Here is how an 11-character code is broken down and what each section of characters represents. They consist of eight or eleven characters. Swift codes are broken down into sections, in the same way telephone numbers are broken into sections, and every section reveals some information about the institution that was assigned this code. The acronym SWIFT stands for the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication. stands for “Bank Identifier Codes” (“bank” instead of “business”) but that is incorrect since non-financial institutions can also join the swift network.Ī “ BIC code” can be seen by many different names, like “ SWIFT code” (most common), “ SWIFT ID”, “ SWIFT-BIC”, “ SWIFT address”, “ BEI” (that comes from “Business Entity Identifier”), or even “ ISO 9362”, which is the standard format that has been approved by the ISO organization. I will never trust TSB again. These codes were initially introduced by the SWIFT organization as “swift codes” but were later standardized by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as “BIC” meaning “Business Identifier Codes”. A high street bank is acting like an online bank, like Monese, Revolut. Monday I will go into the branch again and if my money won't be released in 48 hours I will have to go to the FCA and ask for an investigation. I was very understanding because I know how many scams going around, but after 2 months I feel like the bank is not taking this seriously, they don't care. I wasn't worried, I just walked in, showed them all the documents they needed and I was waiting. It was nearly 2 months ago, since then I called the customer service several times, I went into the branch 4 times and my account is still suspended. So the money arrived on my new TSB account, and the bank suspended my account immediately without any explanation. And legally it is possible to ask your repayment on a nominee's account, there is nothing wrong with that, it happens all the time. I was so wrong! One of my friends asked his Hmrc tax repayment on my account because he had problem with his own account, he was abroad, quarantine, lock down etc, so he had his reasons. (The FCA had to step in.) I thought with a high street bank my money will be safe, if there is a problem I just walk in, show the necessary documents etc. I opened a bank account with TSB after having a terrible experience with Monese, which is an online bank. They're withholding my £2,000 for 2 months now!I opened a bank account with TSB after… ![]() I want to transfer elsewhere but no banks seem to be accepting new customers at the moment with covid. They still haven’t fixed it! I had to hang up I didn’t have time! Just don’t go with them. Update: I was on the phone for 50 minutes just to get them to fix the incorrect direct debit. I’ve been on the phone for 36 minutes to ask them to sort out their mistake with the direct debit (and I’m still on hold as I type). I’m a paying customer who is never behind and the last few months I’m ringing them every few weeks, it’s non stop. Agents don’t listen, so your complaint is not upheld as they’ve based it on irrelevant information (won’t listen to the call though to hear what I actually said). Tell me I’ve missed my loan payment when I paid 2 days before the due date and paid £130 more than minimum. Set up a direct debit to my loan for the incorrect amount. Phone staff are incompetent, transfer after transfer, then transfer me to the automated service to start all over again.
